This is great! Your style is really refreshing. It’s fast-paced but not simple. It’s clear you’ve put a lot of effort into actual sentence construction and I really appreciate that. It reads beautifully. Well done!
Great job on Part 1, Garrett! Super engaging, beautifully written despite the dark subject matter - love a good post-apocalypse, the darker the better, and I think plenty of light in Reyn's spirit to keep the grim circumstances in perspective - definitely rooting for her. Yes, flavors of "The Road" and a little bit of "A Quiet Place" - interested to see how you spin it.
I'm so glad I came across your Substack. I enjoyed reading the first part of you novel and I will definitely follow along. While I wouldn't necessarily count myself in the audience segment for this genre (if it were a film, it would be very hard for me to watch), I absolutely loved the writing.
Wow. Powerful first part, Garrett. The relationship and dynamics between Reyn and her mother are heartrending and realistic. I can imagine the world after being this harrowing, and the things people do to survive they wouldn't if life was peaceful and full.

Very well constructed. The intensity is always palpable. Haven't finished it all but will get back to it.

Very compelling both in the story and the writing. Looking forward to more.
